Happiness and laughter in the workplace

Diabetes. A First World Social Disease

There are two types of diabetes. Type 1, and type 2. Type 1 is seen to be due to family links and can’t be prevented. Through a healthy lifestyle however it can be better managed. Type 2 is more common and the chance of getting it is increased by high blood pressure, obesity, not enough physical activity, poor diet, and carrying too much weight around the waist.
Excuse me for stating the obvious, but these are all self induced. If I’m right, then they are all preventable. So why do we fall foul to these obvious problems?
Stress at work and home, laziness, choosing to be merely “not sick”, and lack of time come to mind as what I hear the most. Unfortunately, the real reasons are lack of discipline, and no personal responsibility for maintaining good health.

Here are 5 tips to help you prevent diabetes

1. Maintain an even blood pressure. Laughter has the ability to lower blood pressure. So why not find reasons to laugh, and do it out aloud and often, or conduct laughter sessions
2. Maintain good cholesterol levels. Reduce your alcohol frequency and levels. Start a chart and have at least three “grog free” days per week
3. Exercise physically and regularly. Exercise on every one of your “grog free” days. This way you’ll feel more like exercising, and won’t undo all of your good work
4. Have better nutrition. Limit junk food and take away to half in the first month, and then half it again every next month. In no time at all you will have stopped
5. To maintain a healthy weight reduce the amount of time that you are sitting down. Get up and move around for a minimum of ten minutes every hour. Maybe have walking meetings
