Happiness and laughter in the workplace

Stress Management

Stress is the body changing emotionally, physically and/or biochemically as a result of an external situation occurring. This can take many forms and is happening continually. The concept of eliminating stress is therefore nonsense. It can only ever be reduced or managed.

Stress comes in two forms. The negative form, which is the most common, is called distress. In the positive form, which results in good outcomes, is called eustress. We need to manage stress in order to move away from distress and toward eustress. This is called our de-stress level.

The management of stress ultimately changes a person’s perception that then impacts on their reaction. In other words your productivity, effectiveness and output is much greater with a reduction of stress.

Here are 5 tips to improve your Stress Management

  1. Meditate. Learn the very easy exercise of deep belly breathing. It will heighten your awareness and enhance creativity. It also clears the head of negative thoughts.
  2. Massage (Self). Stress tightens the muscles around your neck. This is solved by gently rolling your shoulders forward and then back. Start with both and then move to one at a time.
  3. Massage (Others). If you decide to get someone to massage you ensure that it is a soft open palmed and not deep tissue massage. You want to draw away from the effected area.
  4. Laugh. Laughter provides maximum blood supply and oxygen to the brain. This enables you to think clearly and thus work more effectively.
  5. Powernap. Just 15 minutes will regenerate the body and mind. Nap Pods (sleep cocoons) are becoming mainstream for some companies as are quiet rooms
